Located in northern Haiti, this historical national park encompasses three significant fortified structures dating to the early nineteenth century. The site comprises the Citadelle, an imposing fortress, along with the ruins of Sans-Souci palace and the Ramiers fortification, which together represent a remarkable period of Haitian independence and architectural achievement. These structures were built following Haiti's independence and stand as testimony to the political and military history of the nation during this formative era. The site is situated on elevated terrain in the Chaîne de la Selle mountain range, commanding strategic views of the surrounding landscape. The remaining architectural elements, including massive stone walls and defensive structures, reflect construction techniques and design principles specific to their historical context and geographic setting. These ruins document an important chapter in Caribbean history and represent distinctive examples of early nineteenth-century military and palatial architecture in the region.
