Located in the Rhine region of Germany, this site comprises the remains of a significant medieval abbey and its associated monastery complex. Founded in the 8th century, the abbey played an important role in the religious and cultural life of the Frankish Empire and subsequent medieval periods. The site is characterized by the ruins of its stone buildings and architectural elements that reflect Carolingian and Romanesque construction methods. The Altenmünster, or old monastery, represents an earlier phase of monastic settlement and development on this location. The surviving structures and archaeological remains document the evolution of monastic architecture and the historical importance of this religious community in Central Europe. The site's inscription recognizes its value as testimony to medieval monastic life and early medieval historical development in the region.
