Straddling the Canada-United States border in the Rocky Mountains, this international peace park encompasses diverse mountain ecosystems and pristine wilderness spanning parts of Alberta and Montana. The site encompasses two adjacent protected areas, Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada and Glacier National Park in the United States, unified by their shared geological and ecological characteristics. The landscape is defined by rugged mountain peaks, glacially carved valleys, alpine meadows, and numerous lakes, with the Continental Divide running through the region. The park protects significant biodiversity representative of the northern Rocky Mountain ecosystem, including populations of large mammals and varied plant communities adapted to different elevations. Established as a transnational conservation area, the site represents an important example of cross-border environmental cooperation and management. The dramatic topography and geological formations reflect the complex tectonic and glacial processes that shaped the North American west.
