This cultural heritage site encompasses the historic centre of Porto along with two of its most significant architectural landmarks. The area represents an outstanding example of urban development spanning several centuries, reflecting the city's evolution as a major European trading centre. The Dom Luís I Bridge, an iconic double-deck iron arch bridge, constitutes a remarkable feat of 19th-century engineering that dramatically connects Porto's lower and upper districts across the Douro River valley. The Serra do Pilar Monastery, positioned on the opposite bank, is a notable religious structure that contributes to the site's historical and architectural significance.
