Located in the Harz region of Germany, this heritage site comprises three interconnected elements: a collegiate church, a castle, and the medieval old town that surrounds them. The Collégiale represents significant Romanesque architecture and served as an important religious and cultural center throughout the medieval period. The castle, perched above the town, functioned as both a residence and defensive structure, contributing to the settlement's development and prominence. The old town itself preserves a remarkable urban layout with timber-framed buildings that reflect centuries of architectural evolution from the medieval period onward. Together, these elements form a cohesive testimony to the historical importance of Quedlinburg as a political, religious, and economic center in the Holy Roman Empire. The site's material authenticity and urban coherence distinguish it as a significant example of medieval German cultural heritage.
