Located in the eastern region of Hangzhou, China, this cultural landscape encompasses the western areas of the city's celebrated lake system. The site represents a significant example of the integration of natural water systems with human settlement and agricultural practices developed over centuries. The landscape is characterised by its distinctive combination of water bodies, cultivated fields, historic settlements, and traditional architecture that reflects the cultural values and economic activities of the region. The designation as a mixed heritage site acknowledges both the natural features of the lake environment and the cultural significance of human adaptation to and modification of this landscape. The visual composition includes channels, embankments, and islands arranged in patterns that demonstrate traditional water management techniques. This cultural landscape bears witness to the relationship between communities and their environment in the Yangtze River Delta region.
