The national museum of the châteaux of Versailles and Trianon is a site museum located within the national domain of Versailles, in Yvelines. The Trianon estate, created by Louis XIV as a place of royal intimacy, comprises the Grand Trianon built from 1686, the Petit Trianon completed in 1768 under Louis XV, and the Hamlet of the Queen constructed between 1783 and 1786. The collections are characterized by the Empire furniture of the Grand Trianon, the sculptural decorations of the period, and successive landscape arrangements reflecting the tastes of Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Marie-Antoinette. The site also includes a theater from 1780 preserving a significant portion of its original machinery, landscaped gardens, and ornamental structures testifying to the evolution of the sovereigns' aesthetic sensibilities.
