Musée
Marchiennes · Nord · Hauts-de-France
The municipal museum of local history in Marchiennes is housed in the former prisons of the bailiwick. Organized in six rooms, it brings together objects and documents retracing the history of the commune and its region, from Prehistory to Modern Times. The collections notably cover Marchiennes' abbatial past, the Gallo-Roman periods, the siege of 1712, revolutionary events, industrial history with the mine and glassworks, as well as the two world wars. The museum also presents works by regional artists and elements of daily life from bygone times. Among its remarkable pieces are a relief map of the city in 1791 and the building's historic dungeons.
