The European Ivan Turgenev Museum, located in Bougival in Yvelines, is housed in the Datcha, a cottage built by Russian writer Ivan Turgenev from 1874 onwards on the Domain of the Ash Trees. The museum, founded in 1983 by the Association of Friends of Ivan Turgenev, Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran, became municipal in 2026. It preserves and promotes the memory of the 19th-century Russian writer, the Viardot family and their relationships, through collections linked to their life and their era. Turgenev occupied the Datcha during the last eight years of his life, until his death in Bougival in 1883. The museum offers guided and self-guided tours allowing visitors to discover this residence and creative space of a major figure in 19th-century Russian literature.
