The Despiau-Wlérick Museum is located in Mont-de-Marsan in a set of medieval buildings from the 14th century, open to the public since 1968. It has progressively specialized in figurative sculpture from the interwar period, particularly around two sculptors from Mont-de-Marsan, Charles Despiau and Robert Wlérick. The museum houses over 2,400 sculptures made in various materials (bronze, stone, marble, steel, wood), as well as thousands of preparatory models in plaster, wax and clay, representing independent and recognized artists of the 20th century. Beyond sculpture, its collections include holdings in natural sciences, graphic arts (over 11,000 drawings), paintings, decorative arts and studio furniture. The museum is currently engaged in a renovation and expansion project planned in two phases through 2029, aimed at becoming a national reference center for figurative sculpture of the 20th century.
