Musée de l'Etang de Thau - Louis Higounet

The Musée de l'Étang de Thau - Louis Higounet is a society museum located in Bouzigues, in Hérault. Created in 1991 and officially recognized, it is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional skills related to shellfish farming and fishing on the Étang de Thau. The museum presents its collections through contextual museography, reconstructing the situations in which objects were used, and combines scientific, archaeological, historical and ethnological information. Its collections document the evolution of mussel and oyster farming techniques, as well as traditional fishing practices developed since the early twentieth century. The museum offers guided tours, thematic exhibitions and cultural activities, and has aquariums allowing visitors to discover the unique ecosystem of the lagoon.
