Musée
Amboise · Indre-et-Loire · Centre-Val de Loire
The Museum of Art and History of Amboise occupies a townhouse built in the early 16th century by Pierre Morin, a wealthy merchant and treasurer of Louis XII. The building, listed as a Historical Monument in 1880 and restored in 1891, served several purposes before becoming a museum: seat of the seigneurial justice of the Duke of Choiseul in the 18th century, barracks for the garrison of Emir Abdelkader between 1848 and 1852, then town hall from 1855 onwards. The museum developed from 1970 in the spaces of the Morin Hotel, benefiting from a first deposit of artworks from the State in 1876 and official recognition in 2002. Located on Rue François 1er in Amboise, in Indre-et-Loire, it offers virtual tours and guided visits exploring its collections of art and history.
