Musée historique
Chenonceaux · Indre-et-Loire · Centre-Val de Loire

Installed in the Chenonceau Castle in Chenonceaux (Indre-et-Loire), this historical museum recreates the military hospital that operated in the castle during the First World War. From 1914 to 1918, the owner Gaston Menier transformed the two galleries overlooking the Cher into hospital structures, welcoming more than two thousand French soldiers. The establishment included one hundred twenty beds, several operating rooms, and one of the first X-ray radiography devices of the era. The permanent exhibition, presented in the Gallery of Domes, offers a recreation of the living and care conditions during the conflict, offering a local perspective on civilian involvement in the war effort.
