Musée
Chauvigny · Vienne · Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Located in the former rectory of the Saint-Pierre collegiate church in Chauvigny, in Vienne, this museum was created around 1960 with collections from the Archaeological Research Society of the Chauvinois region. It presents archaeological collections covering the Neolithic period, Protohistory (Bronze and Iron Ages), the Gallo-Roman period with notably ceramics, and the Middle Ages with discoveries from local fortified castles. The modern and contemporary periods are represented by clothing, everyday objects, and the reconstruction of a Poitevin interior from the late 19th century. The museum supplements its collections with scale models illustrating the urban and rural development of the territory since the 3rd millennium BC, as well as a crafts room presenting historical artisanal tools. It welcomes visitors according to a seasonal calendar and offers digital devices to enhance the visit.
