The birthplace of Louis Braille, located in Coupvray in Seine-et-Marne, is a museum that has been labeled since 2003. Classified among the Houses of Famous People, it is dedicated to the life and inventions of Louis Braille, creator of the tactile writing system that bears his name. The museum presents Louis Braille's writings, recreates his workshop with original tools, and traces the history of braille's precursors as well as its evolution to the present day. The site also includes a Garden of the Five Senses and offers educational workshops for families and school groups. Open Wednesday through Sunday, the museum welcomes visitors especially during events such as the European Night of Museums and the European Days of Art and Crafts.
