Musée
Villers-Outréaux · Nord · Hauts-de-France

The House of Embroidery in Villers-Outréaux is a museum dedicated to the history of mechanical embroidery in northern France. The museum and its workshop trace the evolution of the embroidery trade, from the early days of weaving in cellars in the 19th century to electronic machines of the 20th century. Villers-Outréaux gradually established itself as a major center of textile production, becoming the largest producer of French embroidery and earning the title of "Capital of French Embroidery". The collections presented on the first floor include samples of hand-embroidered fabrics, embroidered on looms and on multi-head machines, while a second-generation loom recreates the atmosphere of a historical workshop. The museum offers self-guided or guided tours complemented by videos demonstrating the use of the equipment, across two nearby sites.
