A museum of society and fashion located in Caudry in the North, the Museum of Lace and Embroidery is devoted to the lace heritage and textile arts of the region. Its collections present the manufacturing techniques on wide-format Leavers looms, a local specialty, as well as a textile ensemble composed of samples and dresses in lace and embroidery from the surrounding area. The museum particularly emphasizes the characteristic practice of the Caudry industry: the finishing of lace either mechanically or by hand. Housed in a former factory dating from 1898, the building is a typical example of late 19th-century industrial architecture, with its brick structure and large metal windows. The collections are regularly enriched by donations from individuals, lace companies, and contemporary creators, reflecting an openness to current creative work.
