The House of the Canuts is a workshop-museum located on the Croix-Rousse plateau in Lyon, dedicated to the history of Lyonnese silk production. Its permanent exhibition traces the origin of silk, the silkworm cycle, the manufacture of precious threads, the organization of the Lyonnese silk industry and the revolts of the canuts in the 1830s, as well as the invention of the Jacquard loom. Guided tours offer a demonstration of weaving on a 19th-century hand loom and allow visitors to discover the evolution of this industry that shaped the city's identity. The museum also hosts thematic tours of the traboules in the neighborhood and offers a shop selling fabrics and textile accessories of French manufacture.
