Musée d'histoire
Mortagne-sur-Sèvre · Vendée · Pays-de-la-Loire

The Orangerie is a historic exhibition venue located in Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, in Vendée. The building, a former orangery of the Beaussire family that subsequently became public baths and then a municipal facility, was renovated by the municipality in 2021 to house historical collections. The collections on display cover the history of Mortagne and its merged communes, from prehistoric origins to contemporary times, including archaeological objects (catapult balls, stone sculptures, a Merovingian sarcophagus), heraldic coats of arms, and a scale model reconstructing the medieval appearance of the city. The exhibition also addresses themes such as the Vendée Wars, the activity of stonecutters, mills, and the local textile industry. Admission is free; the venue is open daily in July-August and on weekends in April, May, June, September, and October.
