The Gallery of Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy, located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris within the National Museum of Natural History, is a scientific and heritage institution dedicated to two complementary disciplines. The comparative anatomy gallery displays approximately 4,300 exhibited pieces, allowing visitors to observe and compare the bone and organic structures of vertebrates — fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals — as well as anatomical adaptations to different living environments. The paleontology section comprises no fewer than 2,000 fossils, including 316 complete skeletons, spanning a period of 460 million years and illustrating the evolution of vertebrates and invertebrates. The collections include remarkable specimens such as Steller's sea cow and the coelacanth, as well as casts of T. rex skulls and the diplodocus Dippy. The museum offers guided tours and activities suited to school groups and families, although the gallery is currently closed for renovation until mid-2027.
