Musée matheysin

La Mure · Isère · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Matheysin Museum is an art and history museum established in 1994 in the Caral House, in the heart of the old town of La Mure in Isère. It brings together collections relating to Matheysine, Beaumont and Valbonnais, covering prehistoric and Gallo-Roman archaeology, the medieval period and the Wars of Religion, notably the Siege of La Mure in 1580. The museum also presents the economic and social history of the region through testimonies about the activities of miners, peasants, glove makers and peddlers who marked this mountain territory. Spaces dedicated to regional sculptors and painters of the 19th and 20th centuries complete this panorama. It offers regularly renewed temporary exhibitions and invites visitors to explore the historical and natural heritage of La Mure and its surroundings.
