History & HeritageMusée lapidaire Saint-Pierre
Vienne · Isère · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The Saint-Pierre lapidary museum is located in Vienne in Isère. It is part of a group of four museum sites that trace the history of the city from the Neolithic period to the 20th century. The museum presents an exceptional collection of inscribed funerary stones dating from the 5th to the 14th century, direct testimonies to funeral practices and the evolution of writing and monumental language. These lapidary collections are displayed in the Romanesque cloister of Saint-André-le-Bas, an 12th-century building decorated with small columns and carved capitals which themselves constitute a major architectural interest.
