The Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology of Vienne occupies the first floor of a former grain hall built in 1823. Inaugurated in 1895, it has preserved from that era a dense presentation of collections and a painting salon characteristic of the 19th century. The archaeological collections testify to the importance of Vienne, Gallic capital of the Allobroges, and a major former Gallo-Roman center. The museum offers a chronological tour from the Neolithic to the 20th century, notably including objects from the Roman period, a notable collection of medieval French faience, and an ensemble of paintings from the 16th to 19th century, emphasizing local production.
