The Menton Museum of Regional Prehistory presents evidence of European prehistory, from its origins to the Iron Age. Founded in 1878 from the private natural history collection of Stanislas Bonfils, the museum gradually specialized in prehistory and has borne this name since 1988. The collections cover a wide area of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and Liguria, highlighting major sites such as the Vallonnet cave in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, dated to 1.2 million years ago. Since 2008, the museum has also displayed underwater archaeology remains from the western Mediterranean. The exhibition was completely renovated in 2022 and illustrates the evolution of prehistoric ways of life as well as the climatic and landscape transformations of the regional territory.
