Musée de la Saboterie

Gouloux · Nièvre · Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Saboterie Museum is a workshop-museum located in Gouloux in Nièvre, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. It perpetuates the traditional craft of sabot-making, once flourishing in Morvan. The manufacture of wooden shoes follows historical methods: mechanical roughing using nineteenth-century machines, manual finishing with specialized tools, and hand-carving of motifs characteristic of the region. The venue offers manufacturing demonstrations by appointment and displays a living collection including various wooden articles and cooperage items. The museum also has a shop offering wooden shoes, decorated wooden objects and local products.
