The Aleria Archaeology Museum, officially named the Jérôme Carcopino Museum, is housed in the Fort of Matra, a Genoese fortress built from the 14th century onwards and classified as a historical monument in 1962. Located in Upper Corsica, the museum presents the remains discovered during excavations of the ancient colony of Aleria and its necropolises, covering fifteen centuries of island history from protohistory to the end of the Roman Empire. The collections, displayed on the first floor of the fort, offer major archaeological interest for understanding prehistoric and ancient Corsica, as well as for knowledge of Mediterranean civilizations. The site constitutes an open-air museum in a rural setting. The museum remains an active hub of the Corsican museum network, complementing other heritage institutions managed by the Corsica Regional Authority.
