The Archaeological Museum of Champagnole, established in 1986, is a site museum located in the Upper Ain Valley that preserves and presents archaeological collections from excavations conducted since the 1960s in the region. It offers two sets of permanent exhibitions: Gallo-Roman collections illustrating daily life and two ancient settlements (the Equevillon sanctuary and Saint-Germain-En-Montagne), as well as Merovingian collections (5th-7th centuries) from the cemeteries of Crotenay and Monnet-la-Ville. These funerary remains, whose damascened buckle plates testify to Burgundian goldsmith work, shed light on the history of populations that settled in Gaul during this transitional period. The museum, under the scientific responsibility of the Departmental Archaeological Conservation of the Jura, is part of the JuraMusées network and offers educational services adapted for groups and school visitors.
