Located in Yemen, this archaeological site encompasses the principal remains of Marib, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Saba. The site contains substantial ruins of temples, fortifications, and residential structures that document the development of one of the most significant pre-Islamic Arab kingdoms. Marib served as a major commercial hub controlling important trade routes across the Arabian Peninsula, particularly in the exchange of frankincense and other valuable goods. The visible remains include defensive walls, the ruins of several temples dedicated to ancient South Arabian deities, and evidence of sophisticated water management systems that supported the city's prosperity. The site provides essential archaeological evidence for understanding the political, religious, and economic organization of ancient South Arabian civilization during the first millennium BCE and subsequent centuries.
