Natural
Soudan
Located off the coast of Sudan in the Red Sea, these two adjacent marine protected areas encompass coral reef ecosystems and coastal habitats of significant ecological value. The sites protect diverse marine biodiversity including coral formations, seagrass beds, and associated fauna in waters of varying depths. Sanganeb marine park is characterized by its coral atolls and reef structures, while Dungonab Bay and Mukkawar Island represent coastal and island environments supporting distinct ecological communities. The combination of reef systems and shallow marine habitats provides critical breeding and feeding grounds for numerous marine species. These protected areas represent important examples of Red Sea marine ecosystems and serve to preserve the natural heritage of Sudan's maritime zones. The sites' ecological importance lies in their role as refugia for marine life and their contribution to the regional biodiversity of the Red Sea region.
