This cultural site encompasses the extensive network of trade routes that connected Chang'an (present-day Xi'an in China) to the Tian Shan mountains, traversing through Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The routes represent a crucial system of commercial, technological, and cultural exchange spanning multiple centuries, facilitating the movement of goods, ideas, and religions across Eurasia. Located in Kazakhstan, the site includes various archaeological remains, settlements, fortifications, and way stations that evidence this historical connectivity. The physical characteristics of the site comprise both built structures such as caravanserais and fortified settlements, as well as the preserved pathways and geographical features that defined the routes themselves.
