Located in northeastern Italy, this mountain range extends across the Veneto, South Tyrol, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions. The Dolomites were inscribed as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 2009 in recognition of their outstanding geological significance and distinctive geomorphological features. The site is characterised by steep, dramatic limestone and dolomite peaks interspersed with deep valleys, and is notable for its exceptionally diverse karst formations and geological structures. The mountains display distinctive pale-coloured rock faces that create a striking visual landscape, particularly at sunrise and sunset. The property encompasses a series of mountain massifs with high biodiversity, supporting various ecosystems adapted to alpine conditions. The geological composition and formation processes of the Dolomites provide important evidence of the region's complex tectonic history and represent a significant resource for scientific study.
