Located in the Castile region of Spain, this site encompasses the historic walled city of Ávila and its associated extramural churches. The old town is distinguished by its remarkably well-preserved medieval walls, which form a complete circuit around the urban settlement and represent significant examples of 11th to 14th-century military architecture. Beyond the city perimeter stand several important religious structures, including convents and monasteries that developed in the surrounding areas and played a crucial role in the spiritual life of the settlement. The architectural ensemble demonstrates the integration of defensive fortifications with religious institutions characteristic of medieval Spanish urbanism. The site reflects the historical importance of Ávila as a religious and administrative center during the Middle Ages, with particular significance related to figures such as Saint Teresa. The visual character of the site is defined by the combination of the austere stone fortifications, Romanesque and Gothic ecclesiastical buildings, and the urban landscape that has retained much of its historical configuration.
