Located in the Spanish region of Extremadura, this archaeological ensemble preserves substantial remains of the Roman city of Emerita Augusta, founded in 25 BCE. The site encompasses multiple structures spanning the Roman period, including a theatre, amphitheatre, temple, and residential quarters, which document urban life and architectural practices in the Lusitanian provinces. The monuments are distributed across the modern city of Mérida and represent different phases of occupation and construction techniques. The site is significant for its contribution to understanding Roman settlement patterns in the Iberian Peninsula and the material culture of provincial Roman society. The archaeological remains provide evidence of the city's role as an important administrative and commercial centre during antiquity.
