Located in the Aurès Mountains of northeastern Algeria, this Roman military colony was founded in the 1st century CE as a garrison town. The site represents an exceptionally well-preserved example of Roman urban planning, with its distinctive grid layout and monumental architecture clearly visible in the archaeological remains. The settlement features characteristic structures including a forum, temples, theaters, and a triumphal arch, demonstrating the typical organization of a Roman colonial city. The exceptional state of preservation allows for a comprehensive study of Roman provincial life and administrative systems in North Africa. The site's geographical position in the mountainous terrain illustrates the strategic importance of Roman settlements in controlling regional territories.
