Located in the Cauca Department of southwestern Colombia, this archaeological park preserves a significant pre-Hispanic necropolis dating from approximately the 6th to 10th centuries. The site is distinguished by its elaborate underground burial chambers carved into volcanic rock, which feature shaft tombs and painted decorative elements representing one of the most important funerary complexes of the region's indigenous cultures. The landscape is characterized by deep ravines and mountainous terrain that has protected these archaeological remains over centuries. The park encompasses multiple tomb sites with varying levels of archaeological complexity and artistic expression, providing evidence of sophisticated burial practices and social organization among pre-Columbian peoples. The preservation of painted designs and architectural features within the chambers offers insight into the cosmological beliefs and cultural values of the communities that created them. This concentration of underground funerary structures and their archaeological significance contribute to understanding the region's pre-Hispanic history and cultural development.
