Chine

This cultural property comprises the remains of three capital cities and associated royal tombs of the ancient Koguryo Kingdom, which flourished in northeastern Asia from the 1st to 7th centuries. Located in China, the site preserves evidence of the kingdom's political, cultural and architectural development across different periods of its existence. The archaeological remains include city walls, palace foundations, administrative buildings and numerous burial mounds that document the succession of capitals and the kingdom's territorial expansion. The tombs, some decorated with murals and stone inscriptions, provide valuable insights into Koguryo society, religious practices and artistic traditions. These ruins represent an important testimony to the history of the region and the cultural exchange between East Asian civilizations during the medieval period.
