Located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this vast tropical rainforest reserve spans two separate areas divided by the Congo River. The site protects pristine equatorial forest ecosystems and represents one of the largest remaining intact tropical rainforest regions in Central Africa. Its inscription recognises the exceptional biodiversity it harbours, including numerous endemic species of flora and fauna adapted to dense forest environments. The landscape is characterised by dense vegetation, winding waterways, and remote terrain that remains largely undisturbed by human activity. This natural site is significant for the preservation of critical wildlife habitats and the maintenance of ecological processes essential to the region's biodiversity. The reserve's isolation and minimal infrastructure reflect its status as a protected wilderness area of international conservation importance.
