Located in southwestern Argentina, this national park encompasses a vast region of the Patagonian Andes characterized by an extensive system of glaciers and glacial landscapes. The site is distinguished by its dramatic mountain terrain, including peaks that exceed 3,000 meters in elevation, and numerous valley glaciers that have shaped the region over millennia. The park's most prominent feature is the Perito Moreno Glacier, a large piedmont glacier that descends into Lago Argentino and represents an exceptional example of glacial dynamics in a temperate climate zone. The inscription as a natural World Heritage site recognizes the outstanding geological and geomorphological values of the area, particularly the active glacial processes and the pristine wilderness ecosystem that characterizes the region. The landscape combines stark ice formations with surrounding forests and mountain peaks, creating a distinctive environment of scientific and aesthetic significance. The park serves as an important refuge for indigenous Patagonian flora and fauna adapted to the region's challenging climate.
