Located in Turkménistan, this archaeological site comprises the remains of two fortified cities that served as capitals of the Parthian Empire. The fortresses represent significant evidence of urban planning and architectural development during the Parthian period, one of the major powers of ancient Asia. The site consists of Old Nisa and New Nisa, situated in close proximity to one another, which together illustrate the evolution and continuity of Parthian settlement in the region. The fortifications, defensive structures, and residential areas provide insights into the administrative, military, and domestic life of this important historical civilization. The archaeological remains include distinctive architectural features such as defensive walls and towers characteristic of Parthian military engineering. The site's strategic location reflects the political and commercial importance of the region along ancient trade routes connecting East and West.
