Located on the southeastern coast of Sweden in the Blekinge region, this naval port represents an outstanding example of late 17th and early 18th century military maritime architecture and urban planning. Established as a strategic naval base following the Scanian Wars, the site demonstrates the rational design principles of the period, with its fortifications, shipyards, and grid-planned town layout reflecting contemporary European military engineering. The port features well-preserved fortifications, including bastions and defensive structures positioned to protect the harbour and fleet. Its architectural ensemble includes administrative buildings, workshops, and residential areas that collectively illustrate the integrated functions of a major Nordic naval establishment. The site is significant for its historical role in Baltic naval power and its distinctive approach to combining functional military infrastructure with planned urban development during the early modern period.
