This cultural site in Saudi Arabia encompasses the old city of at-Turaif, the original settlement from which ad-Dir'iyah developed as the first capital of the Saudi state. The district represents an important example of Najdi architectural tradition, characterized by mud-brick construction techniques and a distinctive urban layout that reflects the social and commercial organization of the period. Located in the central region of the Arabian Peninsula near Riyadh, the site preserves the remains of residential quarters, administrative buildings, and fortifications that illustrate the historical significance of ad-Dir'iyah as a political and cultural center. The structures demonstrate traditional methods of construction adapted to the desert environment, with thick walls, internal courtyards, and wind towers designed for natural ventilation. The archaeological remains provide valuable evidence of urban development and settlement patterns during an influential period in Arabian history. The preservation of at-Turaif represents an effort to maintain material testimony to the region's architectural heritage and historical importance.
