Located in the mountainous border region between Iran and Iraq, this cultural landscape represents a distinctive settlement system developed over centuries in the rugged terrain of the Hawraman/Uramanat area. The site encompasses traditional villages built in harmony with the steep topography, featuring characteristic stone architecture and agricultural practices adapted to the challenging mountain environment. The landscape demonstrates the interplay between human settlement patterns and natural geography, with villages constructed along the contours of the valleys and slopes. The inscribed area reflects both tangible elements—including vernacular buildings, terraced fields, and water management systems—and intangible cultural practices linked to the local communities' traditional ways of life. This mixed-type designation acknowledges both the natural mountain landscape and the cultural heritage embedded in the communities' long-standing relationship with their environment, preserving knowledge of sustainable mountain agriculture and traditional construction methods that remain largely unchanged.
