Cultural

This cultural site comprises a series of architectural structures and urban ensembles in the region of Aragon, Spain, that exemplify the Mudéjar style. Mudéjar architecture represents a distinctive synthesis of Christian and Islamic artistic traditions that developed in medieval Iberia, particularly following the Christian Reconquista. The inscribed monuments include churches, convents, palaces and domestic buildings characterized by their use of brick, decorative tile work, wooden ceilings and geometric ornamentation. These structures, dating primarily from the twelfth to sixteenth centuries, are distributed across several towns and cities throughout Aragon, including Teruel and Zaragoza. The Mudéjar style in this region demonstrates the coexistence and cultural exchange between Christian and Muslim communities during the medieval period. The buildings represent a significant contribution to European architectural heritage, illustrating a unique regional interpretation of Gothic and Islamic design principles.
