Located in southern Cyprus near the village of Maroni, this archaeological site represents one of the earliest known settlements in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Choirokoitia is characterized by the remains of a Neolithic village consisting of circular stone foundations of dwellings, which provide valuable evidence of early sedentary communities in the region. The site's excavation has revealed artifacts including tools, pottery, and remains that illuminate the daily life, subsistence patterns, and cultural practices of Neolithic inhabitants. The circular architectural structures are distinctive features that contribute to understanding pre-pottery and early pottery Neolithic settlements in the broader Mediterranean context. The stratified deposits at the site offer insights into technological development and human adaptation during a formative period of settlement history. This archaeological ensemble is recognized for its significance in documenting the transition from hunter-gatherer to agricultural societies in the Eastern Mediterranean.
