Réserve de faune du Dja

Located in southeastern Cameroon, this wildlife reserve encompasses a vast expanse of tropical rainforest surrounding a meander of the Dja River. The site protects one of Africa's most important forest ecosystems, preserving exceptional biodiversity including numerous endemic species of flora and fauna. Dense vegetation characterizes the landscape, with the river forming a natural boundary that has historically isolated the reserve and contributed to the development of distinct wildlife populations. The reserve serves as a critical refuge for endangered mammals, forest elephants, and various primate species that depend on intact rainforest habitat for survival. Its inscription recognizes the ecological significance of the forest ecosystem and the need to preserve this relatively undisturbed natural region against external pressures. The reserve remains one of Cameroon's principal protected areas dedicated to the conservation of Central African rainforest and its associated wildlife communities.
