This complex comprises three protected areas located in southeastern Burkina Faso, spanning the W National Park, Arly National Park, and Pendjari National Park across the border in Benin. The site represents a significant conservation area for West African savanna ecosystems and wildlife, including important populations of large mammals such as elephants, lions, and antelopes. The landscape is characterized by rolling terrain with savanna vegetation interspersed with woodland and riverine habitats, shaped by the Niger River and its tributaries. The three parks form part of a transnational protected area network that facilitates wildlife migration and maintains ecological connectivity across the region. The complex's designation reflects its importance for biodiversity conservation and its role in preserving representative examples of West African natural heritage. The site's value lies in its capacity to support viable populations of endangered species within their natural habitats.
