The Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge is a 16th-century Ottoman stone bridge that spans the Drina River in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed between 1571 and 1577, it was built under the patronage of the Ottoman Grand Vizier Mehmed Paša Sokolović and represents a significant example of Ottoman engineering and architecture. The bridge features eleven arches and is approximately 180 meters long, with a distinctive design that exemplifies the sophisticated architectural knowledge of the Ottoman period. Its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007 recognizes its outstanding universal value as a masterwork of Ottoman bridge construction and its role as a symbol of cultural exchange between East and West. Located in the Drina River valley, the bridge remains an important historical monument that reflects the cultural and architectural traditions of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans.
