Located in Azerbaijan, this natural site encompasses the Hyrcanian forests, a distinctive temperate forest ecosystem situated along the southwestern coast of the Caspian Sea. The forests represent a unique biome characterized by dense vegetation adapted to the humid subtropical and temperate climate of the region, with flora and fauna assemblages that reflect both European and Asian biogeographical influences. The site's ecological significance lies in its role as a refuge for numerous endemic and relict species, as well as its function within broader regional biodiversity patterns. The Hyrcanian forests are visually distinguished by their lush, deciduous and evergreen vegetation, which contrasts markedly with the surrounding arid landscapes of the Caucasus region. The site's preservation is justified by the need to protect these irreplaceable forest ecosystems, which face ongoing pressures from human activities and environmental change. This natural heritage represents an important area for scientific research and forest conservation within the Caspian Basin.
