Préhistorama is a museum dedicated to prehistory, located in the former railway station of Châtelperron in Allier. The site offers a presentation of the living conditions of the men of Châtelperron, who occupied the territory approximately 42,000 years ago, notably in the rock shelter of the Grotte des Fées. Châtelperron is of major importance in the study of the Paleolithic: the village lent its name both to a type of characteristic tool and to a prehistoric culture marking the entry into the Upper Paleolithic. The permanent exhibition is structured around ten thematic stages combining scenic display cases, videos and documentation, while a full-scale habitat reconstruction recreates the environment of the era. The museum has a documentation center that complements the visit.
