Housed in the Hôtel de Salm on the forecourt of the Musée d'Orsay, the National Museum of the Legion of Honor and Orders of Chivalry is dedicated to the history of French and foreign national orders. Founded in 1925 within the Palace of the Legion of Honor, it was completely renovated in 2006 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the creation of the Legion of Honor, and then enriched between 2016 and 2018 with renewed museography combining solemn presentation and interactive educational tools. The museum holds collections unique in the world, notably the deposit since 2008 of the collection of Italian collector Antonio Benedetto Spada. Its permanent exhibition is organized around rooms dedicated to the Legion of Honor, the National Order of Merit, and foreign orders, accessible free of charge Wednesday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
